LATEST NEWS:

As we enter the 3rd year of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), there are many provisions that have already gone into effect, like children being able to stay on their parents plan until they reach 26. ABOUT THE ISSUE:

Three  years ago, former ANA President Rebecca M. Patton, MSN, RN, CNOR witnessed history as President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) into law. Nurses around the country were proud of their hard work to enact historic health care reform legislation that benefits both patients and nurses.  While the law is now a reality, there is still much more to do to ensure these vital reforms are implemented effectively and not rolled back.

In the 112th Congress their first order of business was to vote to repeal health care reform. While the legislation passed the House, it died in the Senate.  Additionally, in a landmark decision the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act in its entirety. Chief Justice John Roberts issued the majority decision, siding with the more liberal-leaning Justices.  ACA Implementation will continue as key provisions of the law, including the individual mandate and insurance exchanges, come on line in the next two years. ANA will continue to fight to ensure that the reforms we worked so hard to achieve are implemented and improved where necessary.
