ANA worked with the Congressional Nursing Caucus to raise concerns about the respiratory protections included in the national pandemic flu plan released in November, 2005. The revised plan, released on October 17, 2006 clarifies that respirators are preferable.

On October 26, 2006 the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services published a proposed rule which would require all long term care (LTC) facilities to install automatic sprinkler systems as part of their fire safety systems. ANA Hosts Forum on Staffing Issues

On October 16, nurses from Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana gathered in Cincinnati for a successful ANA-hosted forum on nurse staffing. The meeting, which was part of ANA's "Coming to You" series, began with an overview of ANA's history and continued work on behalf of nursing by ANA President Rebecca M. Patton, MSN, RN, CNOR. Patton's presentation focused on ANA's rich history of advocacy, and how current ANA efforts, from development of the Nurses Code of Ethics to its presence on Capitol Hill, continues to impact nurses today.
