ANA Members Vote on ANA's Virtual Voting
BoothSince 1984, ANA has played an integral role engaging
nurses in Presidential politics. To continue this tradition, ANA engaged
Presidential contenders on both sides of the aisle in our
endorsement
process, which included completion of an ANA candidate
questionnaire and a candidate interview*.
The process also requires
participation of the ANA membership, and your opportunity to weigh in was
heard loud and clear! ANA members were asked to vote for the candidate
they believed would be the strongest advocate for nurses while serving as
President.
ANA's
Election 2008 Action Center was home to ANA’s online "Virtual
Voting Booth" which was open from August 1-31, 2008. During this
timeframe, notice - that this voting opportunity was available on
ANA's website was sent out
through alerts, the CMA insider, Smart Brief and other ANA publications
urging members to participate in the vote.
Here is the breakdown of
the vote:
| Candidate |
% Votes |
| Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) |
64% |
| Senator John McCain (R-AZ) |
36% |
*Please note
that after numerous requests Senator John McCain (R-AZ) did not submit a
candidate questionnaire or participate in a candidate interview with
ANA. Rachel Conant and Hilary
