The American Nurses Association (ANA) has a long history of supporting and actively fighting for meaningful health care reform that assures universal access to high-quality, affordable health care for every person in the United States. ANA believes that health care is a human right, and will continue to fight on behalf of nurses and their patients to ensure that this is achieved. President Obama Signs Omnibus...Includes $15 Million for Nursing Workforce Development Programs
On Wednesday, March 12, President Barack Obama signed into law an omnibus spending measure for Fiscal Year 2009, (H.R. 1105). The omnibus contained a $15 million increase for Title VIII nursing workforce development programs, bringing the proposed 2009 total to $171 million. read the article
136 House Members Sign Letter Urging Increased Nursing Workforce Funding

ANA is pleased to report that a bipartisan group of 136 members of the House of Representatives signed a letter to the House Appropriations Committee supporting $215 million in FY 2010 appropriations for the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development programs. read the article |

President Obama has wasted no time in putting his stamp on health care policy within federal agencies. ANA Government Affairs Launches Advocacy Program In October
Nursing education and practice is grounded in principles of advocacy. Nurses pride themselves on their commitment to actions taken that are in the best interest of their patients. However, advocating for policy change is often unfamiliar. ANA and its’ constituent member associations recognize that key to affecting policy change for the profession and patient care is in the development of political competence in nurse members. ANA is pleased to announce the launching of the first American Nurses Advocacy Institute in October 2009, designed to prepare a cadre of nurses able to advance the state nurses associations and ANA’s legislative and regulatory agendas. read the article
